Mill Close Farm

A Farm Steeped in Heritage

Tucked away in the beautiful countryside just outside Bedale, North Yorkshire, Mill Close Farm has been home to the Knox family for generations. With over 100 years of farming history here, the land and its rhythms are part of who we are.

Surrounded by rolling dales, ancient hedgerows, and wide open skies, this is a place where tradition runs deep—and where every decision we make is guided by care for the land, the animals, and the people who rely on what we produce.

Mill Close Farm

Our Herd

At the heart of Mill Close Farm is our herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. We began building our commercial herd over 20 years ago, and in 2017, we established the pedigree Millclose herd.

Our cattle are bred with a focus on function, temperament, and high Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs). We source top genetics from the renowned Rawburn and Linton Gilbertines herds in Scotland, investing in quality breeding stock such as Rawburn Elsie R067 and Rawburn Ebony R091.

Our main stock bull, Rulesman Paycheck Y680, is already making an impact in our commercial herd. We’re proud to be producing pedigree bulls and heifers for other breeders, while also raising high-welfare, slow-grown beef cattle that deliver unbeatable marbling, tenderness, and flavour.

Looking for premium, locally sourced meats for your business?

We supply restaurants, caterers, and retailers with expertly butchered cuts, delivered fresh and reliably.

Our Place in the Landscape

Mill Close Farm is more than just the home of our herd—it’s a vital part of the wider Yorkshire Dales landscape. Our fields, hedges, and woodlands support local wildlife, and we actively manage the land to encourage biodiversity.

We’ve planted over two acres of broadleaf woodland, helping to create habitats and improve soil health, and we’re proud to farm in a way that works with nature, not against it.

In 2025 we embarked on a project to plant over 3000m of hedges to enhance the habitat we have on the farm.

Eco-Friendly and Regenerative Practices

Looking after the land means thinking long-term. That’s why we’ve built environmental responsibility into every part of our farm and processing operation.

Some of our key efforts include:

  • Sourcing factory water from an on-site underground borehole
  • Using a reed bed system to naturally filter wastewater
  • Recycling all waste materials—cardboard, glass, and metal
  • Generating renewable energy through a 100kWp solar PV system
  • Reducing our carbon footprint by almost 30 tonnes annually

We also follow regenerative farming principles, working to build healthier soil, improve water retention, and reduce reliance on synthetic inputs. This means better pastures for our cattle—and a healthier ecosystem for the future.
