Regenerative Farming
Helping Land Thrive
Our Commitment to Regenerative Farming
At Yorkshire Dales Meat Company, we believe great farming isn’t just about producing top-quality meat, it’s about working with the land, not against it. Regenerative farming is at the heart of how we care for our animals, our soil, and our future.
By using methods that restore soil health, boost biodiversity, and improve water cycles, we’re not only producing better food, we’re helping the land thrive for generations to come.
Make Farming Better
Why Regenerative Farming Matters
Regenerative farming is more than a buzzword. It’s a practical, proven approach to managing land in a way that benefits everyone—from the farmers and animals to the environment and the people enjoying our meat.
Here are just a few of the real-world benefits:
- Healthier Soil – We work to build rich, living soil that stores carbon, holds water, and grows stronger pasture for our cattle, reducing the need for artificial fertilisers.
- Better Grass, Better Beef – Healthy, well-managed pasture means more nutritious grazing, which leads to more naturally marbled, flavoursome meat.
- Increased Biodiversity – By planting trees, preserving hedgerows, and rotating grazing, we create natural habitats for birds, insects, and native plants.
- Cleaner Water – Our reed bed system filters wastewater, while healthy soil and natural vegetation reduce runoff and protect nearby water sources.
- Lower Carbon Footprint – Our solar power system, local sourcing, and waste-reduction efforts all work together to reduce emissions across the board.
- Fuel consumption – We use Podfather route management to minimise fuel consumption and cut unnecessary mileage. By optimising delivery routes, we lower carbon emissions, decrease vehicle wear and tear and support sustainable logistics. Smarter routes mean a green planet!
- Increased Wildlife – We created a 3 ½ acre lake when building the site. Consequently we have seen a significant increase in birds such as Shell Duck, Waders, Geese & Cormorants.
These practices don’t just make environmental sense, they make farming better, more resilient, and more rewarding.

Investing in the future
Farming for the Future
Regenerative farming is our way of futureproofing, not just our farm, but the entire food system. We know that climate change, biodiversity loss, and soil degradation are real challenges, and we’re proud to be part of the solution.
We’re investing in:
- Next-Generation Breeding – By raising cattle with strong genetics, we’re creating herds that thrive on grass-based systems and adapt well to future conditions.
- Soil Monitoring – We’re learning more about our soils each year, testing and tracking how our practices affect carbon levels, nutrients, and structure.
- Education and Sharing – As a family farm, we’re keen to pass on our knowledge, welcome conversations, and support others who want to farm regeneratively.
- Continuous Improvement – Regenerative farming is a journey, not a checklist. We’re always learning, adapting, and fine-tuning what we do to give more back to the land than we take.
Our goal is simple: to leave Mill Close Farm in better condition than we found it, healthier, more vibrant, and ready for the next hundred years
